"A" drive unavailable

Not sure when this started. Deleted some old, unused
software but also had a rain storm and power failure the
same evening. When computer was restarted, no a drive
available in my computer. Device driver gives the
following message "Windows cannot load the device driver
for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or
missing. (Code 39)". Tried Knowledge base bulletin 817196
but did not resolve.
