drive mirror deactivates during backup

Win2K server running active directory with 2 IDE drives
with basic drive mirroring. It appears when backupexec or
SQL backup routine starts, the mirror is deactivated. The
mirror drive remains deactivated until manually
reactivated. Anyone?
