I'm new to networking and am trying to establish a P2P connection
between my desktop and laptop using a cross-over cable.

I read in these NG's about people " mapping " drives and setting up "
drive sharing " .

What is the difference between these two terms ?

Drive sharing is enabling a drive (or a folder) to be seen by computers
on the local network. Drive mapping is assigning a local drive letter to
a drive that is visible on the local network (shared).
