Drive Letter Registration in Windows XP

None of my writable CD/DVD drives (2 internal, one external) will write and
none have a recordable tab on the properties menu.

I use a variety of USB/Firewire devices on the computer that I attach and
remove as necessary. Having tried many other potential solutions to fix this
problem I think it may be a problem with the registration of the drives with
Windows XP.

Is there a way to delete all registered drives and let XP recognize them and
re-register them upon bootup? Could this potentially solve my writable
drive problem?
