Drive letter mis-assigned

Is there a way to control what drive letter gets assigned when plugging in
an external USB drive?

Formerly, when I plugged in my external hard drive, the system would assign
G: (the next letter after my internal CD/DVD drives). Yesterday, I had a USB
Zip Drive plugged into G: and unthinkingly plugged in my USB external hard
drive, which received letter H: of course. However, the system continues to
assign H: to this drive even though nothing is currently plugged into G:

This is a nuisance to me because I have various command-level batch files
(*.bat) which I use to selectively back up, and they all refer to G:.

Is there a way to force the system to return to assigning G: when plugging
in the external hard drive?

Bobbi

My Computer (right click) > Manage > Disk Manangement. If this fails:

"USB Drive Letter Manager for Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003 and Vista"

Thanks, Detlev. The link looks promising, although I wasn't able to figure
out how to change anything in My Computer (right click) > Manage > Disk
Manangement

Should read "Disk Management". Plug-in that USB device, go to "Disk
Management", right click that drive and change its drive letter.

Amazing! (to me, anyway). Thank you so much! Looks like all's well again.
