Hello Everyone,
This morning after turning on my computer, which is
running Win XP Home, I noticed that my "F" drive was
missing along with a shortcut to one of the folders on
that drive which I had in the taskbar. On further
investigation, I found that this drive was now labeled as
drive "I" . The drive in question is a maxtor usb
external hard drive which I've been using for well over a
year and is also mapped on my home network for use by the
other computers. My questions are: 1) What caused this
to happen and 2) short of trying a system restore is
there any other way to fix this?

Thanks for your help,

Hi -

I don't know what caused this, but I'm pretty sure I know
how to change the drive letter back to what it was
previously. First, go to the control panel, then open
Administrative tools. In that, open Computer
Management. Under Storage (on the right panel) go to
Disk Management. Here you will see all your drives
currently installed on the local system. This is also
where you change the drive letters. Right click on the
drive, and go to Change drive letter and path... Click
change, and there you have it. Change the drive letter
and you should be set.
