Drive Installation Help

My laptop computer used to install drivers without incident, but here
lately, after running install routines for things like wireless network
cards or even my pocketpc the driver installation recognizes new hardware,
but fails to automatically install the drivers even after running the
installation disks; I must point windows to the location of the new
drivers, which usually means I have to point it to the installation disk
since I have no idea which windows directory these things are placed.

BTW, I run the same setups on other computers and there's no problem;
windows setup/driver wizard recognizes the new hardware and automatically
installs the drivers...

Something is wrong, but I don't know how to fix it; any help would be
appreciated.
