Drive Icon Help Please

I purchased a new PC and installed WindowsXP Pro. I had one HD which
showed up as C:\ on the "My Computer" window. I have a few optical
drives. I also have a media drive which has several slots (CF, SD,
Mem Stick) which showed up as successive letters, all OK with the
correct icons. The CF drive had a CF icon etc....

I later added a second HD. Using WindowsXP utility, I formatted the
drive NTFS and it showed up with the correct DH icon as Drive H.
Being old fashioned, and using the built in WindowsXP utility, I moved
the new HD to D:/. Now the ned D:/ HD has the CF icon and the CF
drive has the hard drive Icon.

I got TweakUI and ran the Icon Rebuild, no luck.

Anyone have a suggestion on how to make this look right again!

Thanks,
Bob

Look in

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons

There is probably an entry for each drive letter with a DefaultIcon entry
which defines the icon, and perhaps a DefaultLabel entry which defines the
text label.

Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/View/Reset All Folders. If that
doesn't help: Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 /i shell32

Hey, thanks. That was the ticket. I was lucky though.

The drives that came with the computer (C HD and the two optical
drives) were not there. However, the D drive which I added was there
and I could change the shell32,nnn number. The trick was figuring out
which icon in shell32dll was the right one.

Thanks for the reply. Order has been restored to the world.
