The Maxtor website has a utility called PowerMax that you
might want to check out.

As far as i know, a quick format only tells the PC that
the drive is empty and that every sector is available to
be written on.
This isnt a problem if u keep the same partition size
(altho i still recommend the slow format)

Since u merged 3 partitions to one big partition it is
NEEDED to do a slow format, im already surprised that
setup would even let u do a quick format and even more
surprised that u even got through the whole setup process.

Simple and only solution:
-install the drive in the PC as second or as first
(doesnt matter) and make sure u REpartition it and do a
slow (full) format either with setup or with the
diskmanager in winXP

Hope this will speed up ur drive as it should be

Good luck
