The function you are describing uses GROUPING not SORTING. They are very
different.

information.
Have you managed to Group By Subject in 2003? I would use the Group By Box
(it's on the Advanced Toolbar) to Group By Subject and then see if you can
drag items from one Subject Group to another.
I don't have 2003 in front of me, but I know it worked for other fields in
that version.
