I dont like the "automatic update" approach to maintaining my home XP pro
system. I have figured out how to find the updates in the catalog and
install them my self.... but that doesnt help if I don't have a clue what
updates I need. I would like to use the MS web pages "scan for updates"
link (on http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp) to
automaticlly list out what I need to get.

Problem is that several times over the last year when I have gone to that
page (http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp) it says
"checking for the latest version of the windows update software..." and I
have to let that web page down load and install a update to that piece of
software before I can get it to tell me what updates I need....

Since I am still trying not to use the "automatic update" approach, I need
to find that update and download it and install it. I have searched the
catalog and the KB and have had no luck finding out how to do this.

Can someone help me out? Thanks
