I have a request to do the following...create a secure web page on existing
site, prompting user for password to access page. On this page will be an
Access database or link to database that user can download onto home PC. The
user understands that they can't do anything but view contents of database
once downloaded. Chairman of board wants board members to have access to this
database. Is this possible ?

Thanks,
Debra

You are correct. The database will be downloaded to the
users computer. The user would have to have a compatible
version of Access to open it up. They could whatever they
wanted to to the actual file and it will not affect the cop
on the webserver

The Access file will need to be zipped or some users will have problem trying to download it, as it
will attempt to open in Access.

Thomas...I have verified that all users that will be downloading this do have
Access on their home computers. I forgot to make sure that all users have
version that will read database. Forgot to take into account that the
database may be created in Access 2003 and probably can't be read by older
versions. But another question...how do I go about making the download
possible from web site?
Thanks for all your help in getting this task done.

I'm also having trouble resticting the one page on my web site. Can this be
done without creating a subsite ? I just want the one page that will contain
the download option for database protected.

You are going to have to zip the Access database as Windows XP will block it from being downloaded
for security reasons.

Make a 1 page subweb and See http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;825451
Your host will have to support subwebs and unique permissions under the FP Server Extensions
