I am just curious to know where the files get stored in downloaded programs.
for instance, i have skype. I have several contact phone numbers on the
skype application. i suppose these phone numbers are stored somewhere in the
computer. I want to know where.
Likewise, i have lots of songs on the iTunes. Where are the songs stored in
the computer. I just click on the iTunes and hear the songs. But if I want to
access the file where do I go?

Depends on the settings for each of the third party programs you refer to.

Sometimes things are stored on your computer (such as your songs in iTunes)
but sometimes they are not (such as contact information in Skype and Windows
Live Messenger.)

As for the exact location - there are defaults - but those are easily
changed. Refer to the manufacturer FAQs, manuals, online help, etc for
assistance with said applications.

In general, usually data files are stored in your My Documents Folder, which
its self has a number of sub folders, eg My Music, My Pictures etc

You would want to backup this data regularly to external media, eg usb
connected hard drive
My personal preference is for a third party backup tool, and not the default
windows backup tool
