Downloaded files -- why does their size depend on the computer?

Each day I download the identical mp4 video file with program Miro.exe
to a laptop and to a desktop PC. On the desktop PC the file size is
441 MB. On the laptop the "same" file is 115 MB.

Both PCs are running Windows XP. Desktop=XP-Pro, Laptop=XP-Home. The
difference in file size is consistent day to day.

What might explain the difference in size?

The folders are UN-Checked on both computers for:
[properties][advanced][compress contents to save disk space]
There must be some other explanation.

Is the PC wired and the Laptop wireless? It's possible that the
bandwidth of the connection is sensed and a higher resolution version
is being sent to the device with the higher bandwidth.

That would explain it. The laptop is wireless. The desktop PC is
high-speed cable + ethernet.

That is useful to know because I sometime edit files and burn them to
DVD to transport and show them.
