I am running the latest version of defender and an inconvenient problem has
just begun....when I download files from legit sites Ati/Creative, etc the
whole download process would appear normal "download files/save/to the
desktop" as I have always done, but when the download is complete the file is
nowhere to be found. Upon searching the file now ALWAYS goes immediately to
the recycle bin.

I can retrieve it and then install the app, etc. but this isn't right. I
have uninstalled Defender and downloading works normally. If I then
reinstall Defender the same thing happens again......I am not changing any of
the default settings....does anyone knows what is up with this?

Hello Gregg,

Put off the default at "Tools/general settings/realtime
protection/internet explorer downloads.

Tom-

Thanks for giving that a shot, a good idea, I unchecked the box/hit save and
tried to download an ATI driver.....same thing happens and no change to my
problem. Luckily I now know where the downloaded file(s) gets "stashed".

I am likewise running IE 7 which has not given my any trouble (prior to
installing Win Defender). I have run every version of MS (Giant) AntiSpyware
and this has never happened with any previous versions. Strange......

Hi Gregg

While I appreciate this situation is not right. Have you considered
installing a download manager? There are some free ones available with more
flexibility than IE. As you are a desktop man, Getright will create a `one
run shortcut` which will be deleted once you have executed, but for that you
will have to pay. On my system, Defender, doesn`t interfere with these
processes, so why let it arbitrarily take control of you? Suggest you take a
look here:

Hope this helps.
