I downloaded an Access template from the website. But I can't get into the
database because it asks for a username and password. Is there a default
username? Does that account have administrative rights to the database?

A username and password are part of your workgroup file (mdw). The
templates on the website do not require a password.

If you are currently joined to a secure workgroup file, either rejoin the
default system.mdw file or provide the userid and password that it is asking
for.

Rick-

I'm not joined to a secure workgroup file. It appears as a .mdb and when I
open it 'user' is filled in in the password screen and needs a password. I'm
not sure of the account it is referring to.

Nor can I go in to the security settings of the db to let me in. (Wen I hit
shift as I open the db- it doesn't get me in.)

When you open Access you are opening a mdb file (a database). The security
settings are based on the workgroup file to which you are joined (mdw). You
are always joined to a workgroup file. You say that the user is filled in
and you are required to enter a password, what User is entered? If you try
to open any other database file, you should also be required to enter a
password. This is not being required by the database file, it is being
required by the workgroup file.

Either join a workgroup that does not have a password associated with the
ADMIN user, or enter the password it is asking for.

If you don't know the password, and you are using the default workgroup
(system.mdw), then you need to delete it and create a brand new fresh
workgroup file that does not have any passwords. When you delete the
system.mdw workgroup file and then open Access, it will create a new one for
you. You may need your install disks for this.

Rick-

A co-worker was able to download and open it with no problems. But when I
put it on my computer, it immidiately asks for the pswd again. How can I
disjoin the workgroup? I'm not intentionally a member of one.

Ah-

That worked beautifully. Somehow it created system1.mdw I deleted that and
the db opened up w/o asking for the password.

Thanks for your help.
