I have my (XP) laptop setup as part of a client's domain and it doesn't
seem to have any problems working with my home computer in my home
workgroup. So it may just work.
I would use MyComputer,Properties, ComputerName to set your laptop up as
a member of the workgroup and get it working at home. Then go back to
work, use the same to go back and join the domain at work.
You may have to switch back an forth like that, but my experience is
that you don't. In any event it is quick to do this.
