How does the hosts file work?
windows7 ulitmate.

I added this to my hosts file:

127.0.0.1 windowsupdate.microsoft.com
127.0.0.1 fakeplace.com

C:\Users\mike>ping fakeplace.com
Pinging fakeplace.com [127.0.0.1] with 32 bytes of data:

That is what it should say.

But

C:\Users\mike>ping windowsupdate.microsoft.com
Pinging windowsupdate.microsoft.nsatc.net [65.54.221.118] with 32 bytes
of data:

seems to be ignoring my hosts file????

How do I block access to undesired sites?
