Hi there,

I am new to FrontPage 2000. I am familiar
with it's main features and functionalities.
I need to know a little bit more about how it
works, in order to use it better, e.g. how it
handles the shared borders, header
information, external, CCS, etc.

FrontPage generates too many files and
folders in addition to the main html files.
I'd like to know what are these files and how
they are being used by the server.

Can anybody please, refer me to online or
offline resources where I can find these
information.

Thanks.

Jim

This is a broad question that most people have to refer to a "big book" like
MS Press' FrontPage Inside Out or similar. setting this newsgroup up in
your newsreader is a very good start also.

Why are they "too many"? any folder that is prefixed _vti (and some other
folders) are metadata that lets frontpage know how to manage the web. I
guess they do take up a little space on the server but they will decrease
your bandwidth in publishing operations.

the fact that you've even seen the folders kind of makes me nervous since
it's a best prcatice to deal with frontpage webs exclusively with frontpage
(which won't show you the vti folders). so you're either looking at it with
windows explorer or using an FTP client or something.

further, I'd strongly recomend that you upgrade to frontpage 2003. You seem
interested in it (based on your questions) in such a way that you'll benefit
from the upgrade.
