I've been having a problem with a Viewsonic VP181b LCD monitor that
I'm hoping someone can help me resolve.
The VP181b is connected via DVI-D to an ASUS V9280TD video card based
on the nVidia Geforce Ti4200 8X GPU. The video card is AGP 8x but is
backwards compatible with the AGP 4X slot on the ASUS P4B266
motherboard. I am running the monitor at its native 1280x1024
resolution and 60 Hz refresh rate.
The problem is I get flickering horizontal lines on random parts of
the screen. Eventually the screen fades to black, and then the
monitor displays a DVI-D disconnect message on the screen and goes
into sleep mode. I do not have the same problem when connected via
the analog ports on the monitor and the video card (both the monitor
and the video card have both analog and DVI ports). I've downloaded
the latest drivers from ASUS and nVidia and tried changing most of the
video driver settings, but nothing seems to help.
It appears that the monitor and the video card are getting out of
sync. I had the same problem with an ATI AIW 8500 DV card. I
returned the card because of a post on ATI'w web site about
incompatibility between the 8500 GPU and LCD monitors at high
resolution. With the ATI card I was able to get rid of the flickering
lines by lowering the resolution, but the problem happens at all
resolutions with the nVidia card.
I am currently waiting for Viewsonic to send me another DVI cable,
thinking it may be a problem with shielding or poor manufacturing.
Any suggestions are welcomed
