wow, that was the worst install yet....
after spending another whole day screwing around, looking for files,
deleting and reinstalling ATI crap, the MMC was totally hosed after
following the instructions I found here. - Modules I didn't want (DVD,
File Player, etc) were installed anyway, even though I specifically
said not to. All I wanted was TV and FM. Once installed, the
Configuration tool contained entries for modules that were NOT
installed, yet TV and FM were not to be found anywhere (Why am I not
surprised?) - naturally, clicking on either the TV or FM icons in the
program group did nothing. <sigh>
...and of course I wound up with that stupid white square in the upper
left corner I've heard about. who writes this software, a buncha
drug-impaired monkeys?
Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not blaming anyone, anyone other
than ATI that is...
you know, it feels like I've been to dozens of sites over the last
year trying to get a handle on this problem, and all of them have
similar advise - usually a series of specific files, and an
unbelievebly stupid series of specific steps that have to be followed
in order to make it all work. and in all those pages, none of them
agree - everybody has their own convaluted way pf patching together
what works for them - it's as if you have to belong to an insider's
club and know the secret handshake.
what's really funny is, I can just go download AmCap (one 237KB file
<< that's KB!!) from
http://www.noeld.com/programs.asp?cat=video#AMCap
, install that, and in about 2 minutes I have a working TV tuner,
complete with a customizable channel guide, resizable windows and
working recording functions, and IT WORKS.
what's wrong with this picture?
or rather, WTF is wrong with ATI?
what garbage... never again.
