When I bold-face text to serve as headings throughout my document, it's as
though the document map doesn't recognize it as anything special and just
shows every little sentence throughout my document in the map. How do I make
it to where only my headings appear in the document map and not little
"sub-sentences"?

Thanks for all assistance

IIRC, the Document Map looks at outline levels of your paragraphs.

The "best" way to resolve your problem might be to learn about and use
styles for your document, not add direct formatting. If, for instance
you assign your headings a style "Heading 1", the Document Map will pick
it up automatically (because Word's built-in heading styles have
hard-wired outline levels built into them). If you don't like the
formatting of any particular style, change it.

Some fundamentals might be found here:

In addition, the specific Document Map articles I referenced in my post in
your other thread should be helpful. If you're not applying heading styles
at all, but rather relying on Word's "IntelliSense" to create them, then
it's no wonder your TOC is "a big sloppy mess"! Have you read
