DoCmd.OutputTo in Access 97 to Excel 2002

Whever I use DoCmd.OutputTo to send an Access 97 report to Excel 2002, I get
the following error once you open the Excel file....
Rename invalid sheet name.

I realize transferspreadsheet is an option. However, the we'll need to keep
this method intact, along with keeping Access 97.

This appears to be an unavoidable bug. But hopefully someone can help?
