Docking station monitor blank...

Dell Precision M40 laptop, Dell P991 monitor, A11 BIOS, XP
Pro.
Monitor displays initial splash when booting docked.
Screen blanks(blue) and does not display login. Login
displays on laptop closed or open. System ignores monitor
except if I play movie, it displays on the monitor as full
screen video.
Any suggestions?
