My thumbnails are the correct size, but when I click on them they open up in
a new page, but they stay the same size, I want them to enlarge to a decent
size picture.

You have to have the large image in your web, and then create a link to them from the thumbnails. By
default when you use FP's auto-thumbnail feature, it will leave the large photo as is and create the
smaller thumbnail with a link to the large image.

Does this mean that the original photos are still the standard size and all I have to do is enlarge those and adjust the hyperlink on the thumbnail?

You need to import the images into your current open FP web / site first, but if taking the images
direct from the camera files, you need to optimize them first in a image application, as well make
them smaller.

I'm still lost, I totally redid another photo gallery and tried to follow
the tutorial, but it turned out the same, it's as if the camera images are
now reduced to thumbnail size.

Don't use the photogallery component! You will only continue to be
frustrated. Read this new article (yesterday):
http://www.eleanorstravels.com/frontpage-dontdo.htm and another:
