How do you remove a program from the start-up tab that you reach with
msconfig (systems configuration utility).

The specific program entry IS NOT in the registry.

Thank you.

Peter

Hi Peter,

Start/run msinfo32, expand the software environment and click on the startup
programs. Locate that program, it should show where it is loading from.

Peter,

The unchecked [disabled] items in MSCONFIG are moved here:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg]

You may either delete the keys manually, or download a fix from Kelly's site:

Clear Disabled Items from Msconfig Startup [Tip 148]
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

The enabled ones might be present here:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]

If on the right of the line it says Startup or Common startup, then
(with it checked on the page) Open the Start - All Programs - Startup
menu and highlight and delete it from that
