Outlook Express on 2003 Server crashed the other day and now the system
cannot connect with the mail server. I have confirmed that the mail server
is working, by connecting from another computer, so I was instructed by the
mail administrator to reinstall Outlook Express.

Unfortunately there is no option to do so with Server 2003. So what's a poor
fool like me to do?
Louis

Repair your installation of Office, maybe?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not using office.

I just looked at a Windows 2000 Server and it doesn't have an Add/Remove
Entry for Outlook Express or IE6 either. Nor are they listed as Windows
Components

From what I recall, you used to be able to do a repair from the Add/Remove
menu but that doesn't appear to be the case anymore, because there is no
entry.

So how do you fix OE (or IE6 for that matter)?

You can't repair either IE or OE since version 5.0 I believe both are part
of the windows installation, you can only uninstall and reinstall if you
have done an upgrade and then this is not usually sucessful in curing
problems since this is not a true uninstall but a rollback to your previous
version, upgrading from IE5.x to IE6.x does not always cure problems either
since not all dependancy files are replaced. You can try searching
microsoft.support for your the particular error code or message to see if
their is a particular dll relevant to your problem which you can delete and
reinstall. But generally if it is truly broken then the only recourse is to
reinstall windows.

This KB article is about OE on W2K, but my guess is that it would
work on 2003 as well (make sure you have a full backup):
