Okay, this is silly, I click on links on the web leading to newsgroups. I get a Microsoft Outlook Newsreader. Nice, however if I ever need to access it I have no idea. Then I thought, wow, why can't I access this stuff in Outlook 2003.

Well .... any ideas out there? Why would Micrsoft create Outlook 2003 for e-mail and build a separate tool for newsgroups using a tool similar to Outlook 2003 called Outlook Newsreader?

Another note - Outlook 2003 does tell me how to create a newsreader but when I get to the dialog box showing the "Add-Remove" Buttons, I saw the "GO" category but I did not see the "NEWS" Command in the dialog box

Is this a bug in Outlook

If not, how do I find the "News" in the Go Category of the Add-Remove buttons Dialog box

What you are opening to read news is Outlook Express. That's what Outlook
has always used to read news.

To get the News command back, go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel |
Internet Options and change the default newsreader to Outlook Express. If
OE prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time you launch
it, click the "Don't ask me again" box and then click the No button.

Sorry Russ but I am a programmer and if I like things in one place. That's what programmers do so that they have access to things quickly and easily. If I don't get an answer to this, and I know others would like this feature in one place ... very much like Outlook Express, I may end up building a shareware for Outlook 2003

All I know is Outlook 2003 tells me it can be done. If anyone has Outlook 2003 and has done it, can you pretty please tell me what you did or why I cannot see "News" in the Add-Remove Dialogue box / Category pane

What answer are you lacking? Outlook is not, never has been and never will
be a news reader. Where do you see documentation that it is? I already told
you how to get the News command onto your Outlook toolbar.

Sorry to be a putz on this but this is what I did.
1. Open Outlook 2003
2. Go to Help
3. Do a search on Newsgroup Reader
4. Up pops open the procedure on how to create a Newsgroup Reader in Outlook.

I went to properties to grab the url to the page ... it goes to
http://office.microsoft.com/assistan...51033&Client=1

So ... unless Microsoft made a mistake in placing this material in Outlook 2003, there is a way to do it.

You have any ideas why I do not see the News Category in the Add-Remove Buttons Dialog box as noted in the url?

I appreciate your input and I am just as puzzled as you are.

That command opens Outlook Express.
I already posted the method to get that command.

Nothing has changed.
To get the News command back, go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel |
Internet Options and change the default newsreader to Outlook Express. If
OE prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time you launch
it, clear the "Always perform this check..." box and then click the No
button.

You may need to reset the Menu Bar and/or restart Outlook and/or reboot your
machine in order to complete the process. Not everyone is reporting success
with this method, but try it and see what happens. If all else fails, you
can always create a desktop shortcut to Outlook Express and include the
/outnews switch -- that gives you the same result as accessing the
newsreader via the News command in Outlook.
