While running a PowerPoint presentation on multiple monitors using presenter
view, I can't click on the slides. How do I use a hyperlink to go to a web
page? If I have the page open in IE and just click it on the task bar, the
projection device continues to show PowerPoint & doesn't switch to the IE
window.

Don't quite know why you cannot click on a slide but if clicking in the
task bar doesn't work, does ALT+TAB work? If that also doesn't work
then I would guess someone has been messing with your computer.

That is correct because in presenter view you are running in extended
desktop mode.
Have you tried dragging your "IE window " to the right of the desktop?

Thanks for the replies -- turns out that you just have to move the mouse over
onto the second monitor (projector) to click on the slide itself instead of
on the slide in the presenter view on the laptop monitor. I knew it would be
something simple, but the help info for presenter view doesn't help someone
who's never used multiple monitors to look for really basic stuff like that.
