I have the free avira version 9.

When I choose Update/Start product update it loads files but I still have
version 9.

I thought it is supposed to upgrade to version 10.

You do not have to uninstall ver 9, just click on the new setup file (first
close all running programs) and then select the middle option (when it comes
up on what to install) out of the three (install new version or similar)
and let it do its thing.

PS: Disable any anti-malware programs, etc before installing.
PPS: The Avira site stated that automatic updates would also do it, but it
didn't do it on mine.
