I having problems with IE 6. Neverending pop ups. I
regularly delete cookies and clear histroy, but this
seems not to have any effect on the problem. In fact,
pops occur when explorer is dormant!!! BTW, connection
to net is via cable modem.

Furhtermore, it appears that something has taken control
over my browser's internet option settings. For
instance, I am unable to change the home page when
browser is launched. It always defaults to netspry.com.
Another setting I'm unable to set is the browser's memory.

I would appreciate any advice. What I would like to try
next is to download the entire program(Please advice
where) and then uninstall explorer completely. I am
running XP. When I go to control panel, add/remove
programs, explorer's size is listed as a mere 1.6mb. How
do I uninstall the whole thing?

Thank you.

Download and install Spybot. It is free and will clean
all the settings causing these problems. To have more
control over pop ups install popupstopper. Also free.

First eliminate any scumware.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
especially
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm#Coolwebsearch

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
CWShredder is also available here:

**Post your HijackThis log to
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or the Spyware forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/ for expert analysis, not here.**
Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm.
If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.
