How do I turn off automatic research pane when I click on doc?

When I am working on a word 2007 document I will try to click on a space to
type and it will automatically open the research pane. It also highlights
space and not text, so I can't cut, copy etc. It will also delete words
completely in tab-spaces when I try to backspace or undo
