Dick

Go to Start/Run and type regedit and press OK.
Navigate to the following key.

HKEY_USERS\.Default\ Control Panel\Keyboard

In the right side window, you will see the value InitialKeyboardIndicators

Double click this value and set the Value Data number to 2 and click OK.

Exit regedit and reboot.

Try turning it off, reboot, close down, power up and turn on

Ted & Squire, XP routinely ignores the bios setting for the Num Lock key.
See Ronnie Vernon MVP's post later to see how to correct this XP "quirk".

XP will normally restore on boot the "last known" setting when shut down but
not always.

Thanks for that info. I've never had a problem with NumLock staying on with
any XP computer I've used, so never learned about the "quirk".
