I have outlook 2000 and do not know how to transfer my contacts to an
external hard drive. We are moving so I want to be sure I don't loose my
contacts. I do not use outlook for my email. I just want to replicate it on
the external hard drive so I can use it for contacts and print out a hard
copy when needed. Thanks!

It's pretty simple.

(These are for 2003, but it should be similar in 2000).
Go to File --> Import and Export.
Choose "Export to a file, and pick a PST file.
When it asks you what folder to export from, pick Contacts.

There you go. Just transfer that file to an external hard drive.

Copy your outlook.pst file to the external drive.

See if this helps: http://www.slipstick.com/config/backup.asp

Thanks for your help, but I still don't understand.

1) I was able to export to pst.
2) It asked me to Create Microsoft Personal Folder.

What I don't understand now is how to transfer that file to the external
hard drive.
Does it involve changing the text and file locator sequence when I'm
creating the personal folder. ??

Thanks a lot for you help. I still don't get it.
I was able to follow along and export to pst.
I don't know how to transfer that folder to the external hard drive.

Also, 2 posters were nice enough to help me. I don't know if I hit reply to
each of your emails or to my original ? Sorry if I do it too many times. I
really appreciate you trying to help.

No NO NO! As Posted here MANY MANY times - do NOT use the import/export
function to transfer native Outlook data. Just copy the pst file.

When you say "we" are moving, is this your home or your Office? If it's the
office, do you connect to Exchange Server?
