Just to add one more voice, I'm with Graham and Doug: Shift+Spacebar
produces a space on my keyboard as well.

Sorry, Graham. I should have been more specific. If you hold down on
Shift and type CT, then space, then let up on the Shift key and type
scan, you will not get a space. It sure works this way in my Notepad
and Word 2007.
