Microsoft tells me, after the crash, that I must upgrade to office 2003 since
they no longer support 2000. Other than uninstalling outlook 2000 or
upgrading to 2003, does anyone else have a clue what to do?

It's true. Mainstream support for Outlook 2000 ended almost 2 years ago.
