I'm gradually and painfully (despite the XP create-a-
network "Wizard") setting up what should be a simple
network between 2 home PCs and the internet. Dial-up
connection from Host; crossover RJ-45 cable between Client
and Host.
Notwithstanding complications introduced by ZoneAlarmPro
(high security settings prevent Windows update and NAV
accessing the net), something on the Client keeps opening
an internet connection on the Host, and the Host doesn't
close the connection even though I've set it to close the
connection after 5 minutes Idle Time (probably some
activity coming in because I've had to lower the security
settings on ZA?). I close the connection and it tries
again, and seems to give up after several attempts. If I
reboot the Client it all starts up busily trying to
connect again.
I've checked "never open a connection" in IE6. Can anyone
please tell me what might be doing this, or how to prevent
it? Could it be Windows XP Update? Or Symantec (System
Works 2003) LiveUpdate? (I've disabled Symantec's Auto LU
on the Client)
