And related functionality to point out in this context:
If you want to paste in text with carriage returns into one cell, you must
do in cell editing. Just double-click on the cell or use F2 on highlighted
cell to get insertion bar blinking in the cell, then pase intext containing
carriage returns.
If you don't do this, your paste will go into multiple cells because of the
carriage return.
And yes, Merged Cells should be avoided if possible. Usually "Center Across
Selection" formatting does what one wants.
