The only way to color code messages in any version of outlook is to use
flags...

I am also trying to figure this out. In the past I had a set-up where e-mail
from specific people was automatically a different color in my in-box.

It looks like I have Outlook for Windows XP Professional verson 5.1.2600

Incorrect - you can easily color code messages using either automatic formatting or categories. It all depends on the version of Outlook, which was not cited in any of the posts.

I tried to tell which version of Outlook I have:

5.1.2600 of Outlook for XP Professional

That's what it says.

There is no such Outlook version as what you describe. Click Help>About and
post EXACTLY what it says.
