How do I set up to automatic play a disk?

I have loaded a specific player app and want it to automatically play
a video CD or DVD when I place the disk in the drive and close it.

Right now all I get is a display of the disc content folders/files.

Seems rather elementary, but I can't get this to work. How do I do
it?

Thanks

Jethro

No problem. First open your player app and make it the default player
for the file formats you have in mind. Now open My Computer, right-click
on your CD/DVD drive, select Properties, choose the AutoPlay tab and
you're on your way.

Thanks for reply.

My app is Gabest Media Player Classic V6.4. I see no way to make it
the 'default player'. Maybe I just don't see it?

I'm not familiar with that media player. File associations are usually
found in a player's menus, or you can contact the program's technical
support.

If you want to associate certain extensions of files, first directly
go to the program's preferences or options menu to look at "file
associations". If it's there check what you want, if not go to "folder
properties" than "file types". Choose file extension and modify
usually "open" area to associate with your program but it's not
essentinal way to associate.

If you want to autorun, some registry tweaks would be needed. Check
the net for it.

Open MPC (Media Player Classic) | click View | click Options... | on the
left, expand Player by clicking the + (if not already expanded) | click
Formats. I put a check in DVD audio file and one in DVD file | Bottom middle,
autoplay- XP only-, I put a check in DVD | Click Apply | click OK | should
have been able to just log off and then on, but had to reboot. THAT makes MPC
the default player for DVD's.
However, when I right clicked my DVD drive and chose Properties | Autoplay |
there is NO MPC choice under Video, or anywhere else.
Open Regedit. (Start | Run | type in "regedit" [no quotes] | click OK).
Expand each + as necessary to get to My
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoplayHandlers\ click UserChosenExecuteHandlers
In the right pane I saw my DVD-ROM. Moving the bottom right slider to the
right, I saw three entries under Data: one says (value not set), one says
MSPlay CDAudioOnArrival, the third,The MSTakeNoAction is the one to change.
Double click the vertical line right before the word Type on the tan colored
bar. Does it say +PlayDVDMovieOnArrival at the end, right before REG_SZ? If
so,
Slide the slider back to the left, right click on that line, choose Modify.
Type this in the box that's highlighted (Blue):
MPCPlayDVDMovieOnArrival [exactly like that, or copy/paste from here]
Click OK. Close by red X. Reboot. Put in DVD. When popup box arrives, Click
the Select an Action button, and the Media Player Classic. May have been an
Always use this... box ,too. Checkmark, if so. Click OK. Done!
<Sorry, I know it's long>
Hope it works for you,too!

Oh, video? Then go to My Computer, right click on the CD Drive, click on
Properties, click on the Autorun tab, and underneath, change the settings to
what you want.

Done!

I think you mean that Autoplay is disabled.

Click on Start > Run, type and type in 'regedit' without quotas.
Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom

Double click on Autorun, and type in 1.

Good Luck.

John.
