I have several programs which require me to open a particular folder on
the hard drive, but when I open Explorer, the folder "My Documents"
always appears as the default, and I have to manually search for the
folder I need. How can I set up the program so the folder I need always
appear as the default when I open Explorer?

If you are trying to set the default folder from inside the program I can't
help you. But if you are opening Explorer outside of the application then
see below.

First create a shortcut of explorer on your desktop
Then right click and select Properties, select the Shortcut tab
Enter one of the sample options show below in the Target field, click Apply
then the OK button.
C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe /n, C:\
C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe /e, C:\
C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe /n, C:\FolderName
C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe /e, C:\FolderName

Also see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307856/en-us
for interesting variations:

more info: http://vlaurie.com/computers2/Articl...rshortcuts.htm
and still more: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=314853

Pick the option you like best.

You can also just create a shortcut to that folder on the desktop. Open
Explorer, navigate to the folder, right click and hold on it, and drag it to
the desktop. When you release the mouse a menu will appear with options to
copy, move or create a shortcut. Choose create a shortcut. Now when you
double click that shortcut on the desktop it will open to that folder.

Another option is to add the folder to your favorites list.

Right click the folder in Explorer and choose [Send To: Desktop(Create shortcut)]
