Hello, I have been trying to remove this thing but unsuccessfully, "rundll32
advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection
%windir%\Inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove "
Does not work, whenever I start my PC messenger is in the tray, not in my
list of programs or in the control panel or in the start section of msconfig.
Can someone please help and thanks very much in advance.

P.S. I am french speaking but cannot post in the french newsgroup because
when I click on "new" question nothing happens,in other words no box appears
as is the case here and I do not know where to go to fix that problem.

The link from Claymore speaks about using "rundll32", which Jean-Marie had
already tried in vain. Also this link is date in Year 2005, quite old, isn't
it?

I too have similar problem and about post it when I found Jean-Marie's post.

I have installed "Windows Live Messenger" and expected that the old "Windows
Messenger" will be removed by the new installation. But this didn't happen.
I can try the VBS given in the link, as it will be the first time for me.
But will it also remove the Live Messenger?

ThanQ...

If it is running in the tray, open it - there is an option to start
automatically - turn this off.

I would like to elaborate little bit more as I was also facing similar
problem as by Jean-Marie. Jean-Marie, check where your differ:

1. Windows Messenger (WM) came with my desktop installed.
2. I wanted to remove it before installing Live Messenger (LM). So I looked
in "Add / Remove Programs", it is not there. So I couldn't remove it.
3. I right clicked on the tray icon. There was no option to "uninstall".
4. I went ahead and installed LM, hoping that its installer will remove WM.
At least that's how WM and MSN Messenger behaved earlier.
5. Nope, the LM installer didn't remove WM.
6. So I right clicked on its tray icon and exited.
7. Then I rebooted. WM has not started. Now only LM works.
8. BUT THE "WM" IS STILL IN START->ALL PROGRAMS. That disturbs me. Why can't
I remve it completely? Why should I bear its remanants? How can I remove it?
I don't know what will happen if I run it accidentally. With so many
problems that I am now facing with my machine, I don't dare to touch
something unnecessarily. Of couse, I can take informed and calculated risk.

Any help?

ThanQ...

Hello guys,

Has anyone tried uninstalling Windows Messenger in:
Control Panel => Add or Remove Programs => Add/Remove Windows
Components (on the left)
And then:
Select 'Windows Messenger' in the listbox; uncheck it's box; click
Next.

Hi
To answer your question about windows messenger, it is part of the operating
system and it would be unwise to try to 'uninstall' it, it would be better to disable it so it does not appear on startup. this is easy, go to Start>Run>
type in msconfig>ok, the window that opens top right click on Startup, all your programmes at startup are listed here, look for msnmsgr (there could be more than one listing) untick the box. while you are there you could also click on boot INI ( at the top) and change the timeout to 3 seconds ( this merely decreases the time for your pc to boot up) click apply and reboot.as far as the start all programmes area, find the offending windows messenger, right click and remove from list. poof its gone!

Mick
