I made my website on my laptop which has a different resolution since it is a
widescreen computer. I was wondering if anyone knew how i might possible
resize the site for a resolution of 1020x768 which i am told is a standard
size.

You have been told incorrectly - there is no standard size.

And resolution has little to do with the problem, other than determining how
wide/tall you can practically make your browser window. It's the dimensions
of the browser window that cause your page to do unexpected things.

Read this essay and pick a size -
