How do I reclaim IE6 from AOL??????

I used to be able to use IE6 as a seperate entity while
online with AOL. I tried to upgrade AOL to 9.0. From that
time on I could not get anything on the IE6 browser
except: Page cannot be displayed. This kept me from my
online businesses. After about 13 calls to AOL and 36
hours later, taking AOL completely out of my computer and
then reinstalling an earlier version, they finally had me
go in and change a couple of things. I now can use my IE6
BUT it has: "Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by
America Online" at the top of the browser window. I can't
even get it back where it used to be and the
A.....hol...e...s at AOL won't tell me what to do either.
They just laugh at me a lot. Am I crazy or is
this "provided by AOL" thing brand new. I am old but I
don't think I am that blind yet. They just assure me it is
the same IE I used to have, just that they have kinda
highjacked it without my permission. What to do?

I was aflicted with a lesser version of this when I
installed AOL messenger at one stage. I sent them an e-mail
along the lines "I consider that you have fraudulently
induced me to install software that reduces the function
of my machine and seems functionally equivalent to a virus"

That persuaded them to send me instructions on how to edit
the registry to remove their crap... you may or may not
be able to achieve something similar. The moral might
be that these are not the sort of people you should be
doing business with.

Good luck,
Graham
