Hey - I am triyng to password a single folder on my computer that contains
personal stuff. I know that you can make different user accounts, but thats
not what im trying to do.

Im hoping there is a way to make it like a zip file, so when you try to open
it you will be prompted to enter a password. Does windoes have anything like
that so I dont have to compress the folder everytime I add something to it?

Thanks!!
/Greg

Hi Greg,

Are you using NTFS, or FAT32 file system?

Greg,

You cannot password protect a file or folder in XP, but you can limit access
to them through permissions. You must be using the NTFS file system
however.

This Google thread explains all:

For what you're trying to do, I recommend the freeware Truecrypt:
<http://www.truecrypt.org>

Rather than encrypt a folder, you create a virtual disk that only
mounts with a password. Once mounted, you use it as if it were an
external disk. When dismounted, it stores all contents encrypted on
your hard drive as a container file. Lots of options. Best freeware
out there.

HTH,
John

Yes XP has Zipfolders and provides for password protecting them.
