How do I Password Protect my screensaver, screensaverissecure value is set to
1. all I want is to protect people getting into my computer while it is idle.
I have important programs running that can not be interupted, so the computer
can not be logged out.
Can anyone help with this matter ?

The screensaverissecure value set to "1" is exactly the same as putting a
mark in the checkbox "On resume, display Welcome screen" (if the Welcome
screen is in operation).

This will either bring up the Welcome screen or the login dialogue box
depending whether or not the Welcome screen is deployed ('Control Panel' >
'User Accounts' > 'Change the way users log on or off ').

However, the user can still shut down the computer if the shutdown option is
enabled for that user.

P.S you can disable the 'shutdown' button on the Welcome screen by going to
'Administrative Tools' on the 'Start Menu' and starting the 'Group Policy
Editor'.

Then navigate to : 'Computer Configuration' > 'Windows Settings' >
'Security Settings' > 'Local Policies' > 'Security Options'

....and find the item here named:

'Shutdown: Allow system to be shut down without having to log on'

... and set this option to 'disabled' to make the option unavailable.

You could create a shortcut that runs:

%windir%\system32\rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation

Then add the shortcut to a toolbar in the Windows taskbar, or on your
dekstop, or use it as the command executed by a programmable key on your
keyboard. Then just use the shortcut or programmed key to instantly
lock your host.

There is also just hitting the Winkey+L key combo to instantly lock your
keyboard.

You might forget to lock your host so be sure to specify an idle timeout
for the screen saver that you select. Obviously you need to enable the
"on resume, password protect" option for the screen saver. Otherwise,
anyone can kill the screen saver and start using your Windows login.
The screen saver uses the same password as for your Windows login.

So is the computer secure so no one can hit the Power button? Are the
cords protected so no one trips over them and unplugs your computer? Is
the case locked so no one can get inside? That is, just how are you
protecting against physical access to your host? Got a UPS on that host
and is it big enough to keep the host long enough to complete all the
tasks that you want it to run? Or, at least, a big enough UPS to allow
your host to gracefully shutdown (provided you configure the UPS
software or Power Options in Windows to do a graceful shutdown) to
ensure your data files are close properly?

Change your screensaver to a big, plain-text, sign that reads:

DO NOT TOUCH

and go to lunch.

Get a power strip with an on-off switch that you can hide under your desk and plug the monitor into
this.
Then turn the power off to the monitor at the power strip. Turn it back on when you get back.

What, exactly, do you mean by "The welcome screen does not pop up"?
That YOU have not got the welcome screen enabled OR the Welcome screen IS
enabled but does NOT pop-up after the screensaver is dismissed (by say, a
mouse movement)?
