How Do I Open, View or Preview Archived Messages?

My Outlook 2002 Storage reached it's maximum size after 6 years of using it.
I had to archive everything from the beginning of the year back.

Now I have a folder called Archive Folders in Outlook and I can see the
headers and even do a search, but I can't open them or preview them!

Does anyone know how to view archived messages? This is ridiculous the way
it is. What's the point of archiving if you can't read them again?

THANK YOU

It's not ridiculous. In normal conditions you can view your archived emails
just like normal ones. Obviously something is wrong in your configuration.
You say that you can't open them. This is much too vague of an description
to offer any assistance. What happens when you try? Do you get any errors?
Can you open other items in other folders in that pst-file?

To elaborate on what's happening, is that I can see the archived messages,
(there's a folder named Archived Folders, and it's a tree structure, so I can
see the various folders with their respective contents). In other words, I
can "see" the archived folders and messages, and if I highlight one of the
messages I can see a preview in the preview pane and if I double click to
open, it opens in it's own window to read). So the Archive Folder seems to
work, however if I "Search" the folder and then try to highlight or open the
search results, it tells me: "Can't open this item. Could not open the item.
Try again."

And you're starting your search from the folder that the items are in?

Which exact version of Outlook are you using? Help-> About

Additionally scan your pst-files for errors with scanpst.exe

Yes, correct. Searching using the Outlook search box and I select the "search
in" > Archive Folders + Search SubFolders. Like I said the search works, but
it's impossible to view whatever is found during the search. It's Outlook
2002.
