I have to transfer a pst file from Outlook 2003 to my home computer which is
on Outlook 2000. How do I do this? I got a compatibility issue response
during my trials.

In Outlook 2003, you need to create a new Outlook Data File in 97-2002
format. Copy all the data from your 2003 pst file into that, and use that to
do the transfer.

HI,
Outlook 2003 introduced the Office Outlook Personal Folders file (.pst), a
new format that offers greater storage capacity for items and folders and
supports multilingual Unicode data. A file created in the Office Outlook
Personal Folders file (.pst) format is not compatible with earlier versions
of Outlook and cannot be opened in earlier versions of Outlook. To create a
data file that is compatible with earlier versions of Outlook, use the
Microsoft Outlook 97-2002 Personal Folders file (.pst) format. This file
format is the same as the format that was available in earlier versions of
Outlook. It does not support multilingual Unicode data and offers the same
storage capacity for items and folders that was available in earlier
versions.
------------------------------------------

How to determine your .pst file format

TOOLS > OPTIONS > MAIL SETUP > DATAFILES > SETTINGS

Check the Format field to see if it contains the string Personal Folders
file or Personal Folders file (97-2002)

--------------------------------------------

If your .pst file is the newer format and you want to open the .pst file on
a computer by using Microsoft Outlook® 97, Outlook® 2000, or Outlook® 2002,
you must import the items in your Outlook 2003 .pst file to the Outlook
97-2002 .pst format file.

CREATE A NEW *.PST FILE THAT IS COMPATIBLE WITH OUTLOOK 97-2002.

FILE > NEW > OUTLOOK DATA FILE > OUTLOOK 97-2002 PERSONAL FOLDERS FILE
(*.PST) > OK

Type a Name for this file in the FILE NAME BOX > OK

In the NAME BOX, type a display name for the .pst folder > select any other
options you want > OK

The name of the folder associated with the data file appears in the Folder
List To view the Folder List , on the Go menu, click Folder List By
default, the folder is called Personal Folders .

-----------------------------------------------

IMPORT ITEMS TO THE NEW PST FILE

FILE > IMPORT/EXPORT > IMPORT FROM ANOTHER PROGRAM OR FILE > NEXT > PERSONAL
FOLDER FILE (*.PST) > NEXT

In the FILE IMPORT BOX, specify the path and file name of the pst created
with Outlook 2003 that you want to import > NEXT

IMPORT ITEMS INTO THE SAME FOLDER IN and then click the name of your new PST
file.

Follow the remaining instructions in the Import and Export Wizard.

-------------------------------------------------------------

That is the official way to open an "old" PST File in Outlook, but you can
also open the "old" pst file in Outlook 2003 via

FILE > OPEN > OUTLOOK DATAFILE > Point to your Outlook 97-2002 .pst file.

This is more efficient as to import the pst file!

Hi,
I tried this in order to move pst files from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2002
and I recieved this error: "not compatible with this verison of Personal
Folders information service." I checked my saved pst file and it is in the
97-2002 format. How do I move this pst file to Outlook 2002? Both pcs are
running XP Professional.
Thanks!
