When user clicks on thumbnail and then clicks out again, my site closes.
This is very exasperating.

What's the URL for your site so we can take a look?

You mean they click on the X? That is expected behavior.
If they wanted to continue browsing, they would use the back button in
their browser.

To avoid that, when you create the hyperlink, click Target Frame (bottom
right of the box) and choose New Window and that will cause the link to open
in a new window. You could also switch to HTML/Code view and add
target="_blank" to the end of your hyperlink.

What you can do is follow the instrction given to use the target frame and
specify "new window". What may help you to make it easier is insert one
thumbnail, use the target frame to specify "new window" and if this is going
to be a page of mostly or all thumbs, make it the page default. Then you can
insert say, 20 more pictures, make them thumbnails and it will already be set
up for new windows for the rest of the pics.

REMEMBER: if you include other hyperlinks, such as, back, home, next, email
etc, you will have to manually make them "same frame" by using the target
frame button.

This doesn't appear to work in a photo gallery.
