how do I make reply or read window bigger ?

Apart from having to click on maximise, prior to my rebuild clicking reply
saw the window fill the screen, now its a third of the screen width, even a
'new post' window is defualted to this small size, how can I alter this to
much bigger and have it remember this from then onwards ?
